Hello Neighbor review
Hello Neighbor is a horror game developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by TinyBuild. The first version of the game was released on June 8, 2016. The latest version of Hello Neighbor was launched on December 8, 2017.
This game is like a horror movie: if you are not a fan, you won’t like it. But if you’re interested in the unpredictable plot turns with a pinch of the detective genre, this game will match your taste.
The developers diligently play on contrasts. Looking at the colorful world of Hello Neighbor, you might be tricked to think that it’s a Pixar animated movie. You don’t expect any that violence and cruelty exist in such a place. The illusion is quickly dispelled: kicking a ball on the street, the young hero hears a heartbreaking cry from the house across the road and manages to discover what is his new neighbor doing.
Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom (most likely the USA) lived a curious little boy. A suspicious-looking man moved into one of the empty houses in the neighborhood, and at the same time, the kids of the town started to disappear. Is it a coincidence? The main character does not think so and goes to the neighbor’s house to find out what’s going on.
What does the boy need to do? In the context of Hello Neighbor, the question is complex. The game periodically gives a very ephemeral hint of further action. The game consists of three stages, that tell you about three different moments from the life of the protagonist. The first two stages are very simple and serve as a warm-up for the third, in which the neighbor’s house grows to incredible sizes, the puzzles and quest become very complex. Each new level represents the updated house of the neighbor. When and how he managed to fence himself with a tall wall or to build a branch network of the railway for a trolley around his castle is a big question. However, you still have to find out what is hiding. There are also three mini-games, and by completing you’ll be given useful abilities.
The game makes it impossible to predict the actions of a big mustached man. Everything he does depends on your actions, and at the same time, it doesn’t. The game uses an artificial intellect that monitors your choices and actions, so the neighbor always has a new trick for you. Sounds mind-breaking, isn’t it?
- Original and interesting idea;
- Artificial intelligence that tracks your actions;
- Makes your brain think and analyze constantly;
- Lots of quests and puzzles to solve.
- Graphics look outdated;
- The gameplay sometimes is illogical.
